Smoke Alarms:

Since 2017, all smoke alarms older than ten years must be replaced. Additional requirements apply from 2027, where any smoke alarms installed in an existing dwelling are required to:

• Be photoelectric
• Interconnect with other smoke alarms in the house
• Be in every bedroom and hallway, with at least one on every storey
• Not contain ionisation sensors

These requirements begin in 2022 for any homes being sold or leased.
